STAGE IT! - DRAMA (THERUKOOTHU) WORKSHOP

Programme Title: Stage It! Drama Workshop – Therukoothu
Art form: Theatre
Target Audience: Primary and Secondary Students
Venue required: A spacious room with no tables and chairs
Duration of each session: 1.5 Hrs
Total no. of sessions: 4 sessions
Material/ Equipment needed: Computer, Hand phone
Student Instructor Ratio: 20 Students to 1 Instructor
Task: Pupils will use 'Therukoothu' elements incorporated with improvisation skills and team dynamics to put up a short play at the end of 4 sessions.
Learning Objectives:
To bring about appreciation and experience the traditional Indian theatre form “Therukkoothu” which has been a neglected traditional form of theatre.
The objective of Therukoothu are as follows:

Basic introduction to Theatre

Be exposed to Singapore’s arts and cultural heritage
At the end of the 4 sessions pupils will be able to

Display basic therukoothu movements.

PANCHA TANTRA KATHAIGAL
Programme Title: Pancha Tantra Kathaigal
Art form: Literary Art
Target Audience: Primary Students
Venue required: Room Space without tables and chairs
Duration of each session: 1 – 1.5hrs
Total no. of sessions: 4 sessions
Material/ Equipment needed: Computer
Student Instructor Ratio: 20 Students to 1 Instructor
Task: To be able to speak 5 – 8 sentences in tamil.

PAAVAIYIN PARVAIYIL – PUPPET STORIES

Programme Title: Paavaiyin Parvaiyil – Puppet Stories
Art form: Literary Arts
Target Audience: Lower Primary and Upper Primary Students
Venue required: Conducive Classrooms
Duration of each session: 1.5 hrs
Total no. of sessions: 3 Sessions
Material/ Equipment needed: Computer, Hand phone
Student Instructor Ratio: 20 Students to 1 Instructor
Task: Speak 5-8 sentences and make a simple puppet.
Learning Objectives:

VILLUPATTU - CREATIVE STORYTELLING

Programme Title: Villupattu - Creative Storytelling
Art form: Literary Art
Target Audience: Primary, Secondary and Tertiary Students
Venue required: Dance studio, music room or equivalent space
Duration of each session: 1.5 hrs to 2 hrs
Total no. of sessions: 2 to 3 sessions
Material/ Equipment needed: Computer with camera
Student Instructor Ratio: 20 students to 1 instructor
Assessment Tasks: Group performance - 5 mins
Learning Objectives:

Students will be introduced to the ancient yet creative style of musical storytelling from Tamilnadu and its history.

Students willearn elements of Villupattu such as story creation, infusion of appropriate songs and rewriting lyrics according to the story.

Students will demonstrate their learning in the form of a group performance.
PARAISAI - TRADITIONAL DRUMS

Programme Title: Paraisai - Traditional Drums
Art form: Music (Experiece)
Target Audience: Upper Primary and Secondary Students
Venue required: A spacious room with no tables and chairs (music room/dance studio)
Duration of each session: 1.5 Hrs
Total no. of sessions: 2 sessions
Material/ Equipment needed: Computer, Hand phone
Student Instructor Ratio: 20 Students to 1 Instructor
Task: Students will gain the confidence of playing the beats for 2 mins. They get to understand the cultural importance behind the Parai Isai and get to know about our tradition and heritage.
Instructions , visual resources and call and response methodology for instructions will be digitalised.
The drums will be passed to the school before the lesson. ( 20 drums per school)
